The Christmas episode. Angel is being haunted by visions of his victims — the First Evil, though it won’t be named as such until Season 7, is appearing in their forms and driving him toward killing Buffy. He decides to walk into the sunrise rather than do it. Buffy stops him. It snows in Sunnydale — the first snowfall in recorded history — and they walk through it together. The episode is deliberately sentimental and commits to it completely.
What Happens
The First Evil has been sending Angel visions of his victims, building toward a moment where he kills Buffy in a dream and then attempts to in waking life. He tells her, and then goes to a hilltop to die in sunlight. Buffy confronts him: she doesn’t get to walk away from her life either. The sun rises. The snow falls instead. The First retreats. Whatever caused the snow is never explained.
Oz and Willow’s subplot: they’re figuring out their relationship after the Xander incident. Oz forgives her. It’s handled with his characteristic economy.
Key Moments
The hilltop scene — Buffy telling Angel “So what, you want me to say it’s okay? Well, it’s not okay.” It’s the show understanding that love isn’t absolution. The snow arrival is a deus ex machina and the episode knows it and doesn’t care.

The First Evil, or its servants — the Bringers appear here before their Season 7 role. The First cannot be fought physically; it can only be refused.
Notable Quote
“Am I a thing worth saving? Worth fighting for?” — Angel. Buffy’s answer is physical: she steps between him and the sunrise.
Where It Fits
Amends is the episode that keeps Angel in the show — literally. Without the snow, he dies and Season 3 becomes a different programme. The First Evil’s appearance is a thread the show will pick up again in its final season, making this episode retroactively significant.
