Glory captures Tara and brain-sucks her, believing she’s the Key. Tara is left traumatised and incoherent. Willow, having found Tara, attacks Glory alone — channelling dark magic in a rage the show has been building toward for two seasons. Glory is briefly staggered before throwing Willow into a building. Buffy arrives. They retreat. Willow holds Tara. The episode ends on Willow’s face, which is not the face she had before this happened.
What Happens
Buffy has taken Dawn out of school to homeschool her — Dawn pushes back, badly. Willow and Tara are in a good place until a disagreement about magic becomes something larger. Tara, alone, is found by Glory. The brain-suck is shown and it is not softened. Willow’s response is the episode’s second half: dark magic, a direct assault on a god, and a fury that surprises Glory. It doesn’t work. Willow is injured. But something has changed in her.

Willow’s attack on Glory — not Willow using magic carefully and cleverly, as usual, but Willow using it without restraint, as a weapon, in grief. The show is tracking the line she crosses and noting it.

Where It Fits
Tough Love is the episode where Willow’s arc toward Season 6 becomes visible. Her grief and her power are the same thing now, and the show is noting what that will cost. Tara’s incapacitation drives the final three episodes of the season.
