Buffy pulls the Scythe from the stone. A guardian appears and explains it — made for the Slayer alone, kept from the Shadow Men. Caleb kills the guardian. Buffy hits Caleb with the Scythe and he splits. Angel arrives from Los Angeles with an amulet. The Scoobies and Buffy are reunited. She chooses Spike for the amulet. The episode is the penultimate hour, and it moves at speed.
What Happens
The Scythe is the weapon made for this moment — built by a secret order of women who worked outside the Shadow Men’s framework. The guardian (Christine Healy) is the last of them. She dies. Buffy fights Caleb with the Scythe and wins, finally — not strength but the right tool. She and Faith pull the Scoobies out of the vineyard tunnel collapse. Angel arrives. Buffy tells him she loves him and sends him home. She tells Spike the amulet is his — it needs a champion with a soul, and he’s what she needs.
Key Moments
Angel’s arrival — brief, warm, but clearly closing. And Buffy telling Spike what he is to her: “I’m not ready for you not to be here.” And then, the thing Cassie predicted in Help: “I love you.” Spike: “No you don’t. But thanks for saying it.”

Notable Quote
“I love you.” — Buffy. Then: “No you don’t. But thanks for saying it.” — Spike. Whether she means it is the show’s final deliberate ambiguity about this relationship.
Where It Fits
End of Days is efficient and warm — it reassembles the group, gives Buffy her weapon, and sets up Chosen’s plan. Everything the show needs to say in the finale, it’s been saying for seven years. The last episode just has to land it.
