In the BOOM! Studios alternate universe, Drusilla has been keeping a low profile. That changes in issue #14 (by Sarah Gailey, Kath Lobo, and team) — and her plan this time makes everything she attempted in Sunnydale look like a warm-up.
She’s been the mastermind all along. She manipulated Buffy and Faith into clearing out a vampire gang, using Spike as the unwitting go-between, and now she’s positioned to do something she never managed on television: become the queen of Hell.
The mechanics of her scheme are particularly cruel. After Willow took Buffy’s Slayer powers earlier in the run, Willow became permanently connected to the Chosen Ones. Drusilla’s plan requires sacrificing Buffy and Faith — leaving Willow as the world’s only active Slayer, and barely a capable one at that.
What makes this version of Drusilla more frightening than her TV counterpart isn’t battlefield prowess — it’s the scale of her ambition and the fear she inspires in Spike. On the show, Spike was rarely scared of anything or anyone. Here, the mere mention of her name has him desperate to keep the Slayers out of the fight entirely.
She was always the most dangerous villain Buffy faced. The BOOM! universe seems to agree.
