If you’ve been following the discourse around Forspoken since it launched last week, you’ll know that much of the criticism has been aimed at the dialogue — specifically the banter between Frey and her magical talking bracelet Cuff, which plenty of players have found grating.
The Escapist has a great piece up arguing that if Buffy trained you to love that kind of snappy, self-aware, quip-heavy dialogue, you’re probably fine with it — and they’re not wrong. Go give it a read. It’s a fun argument and it’ll make you think about how much Buffy quietly rewired what a generation of us expects from genre writing.
