Juliet Landau is hosting a rewatch podcast dedicated to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the guest list alone is enough to make the hair on the back of one’s neck stand up — in the best possible way.
The podcast is called Re-Vamped, and Landau — best known to us all as the magnificently unhinged Drusilla — is joined by three co-hosts operating under the rather marvellous handles Scooby Dru, Sire Rebecca, and Watcher Dev. The format is a proper deep-dive rewatch: episode by episode, with guests drawn from the cast and creative team of the show itself. Not the usual celebrity-fan setup. The actual people who made it.
Already recorded are interviews with Julie Benz — Darla, for those who need a reminder — and Nerf Herder, the band responsible for that opening theme which, twenty-seven years on, still makes the stomach do something slightly odd when it comes on. Both conversations are available now.
What’s coming is the part that requires a moment to absorb. Sarah Michelle Gellar. David Boreanaz. Amber Benson. Clare Kramer. All confirmed. Whether they all appear in the same episode or across separate instalments hasn’t been made entirely clear, but the roster speaks for itself. This is not a cash-in. This is the real thing.
Collider broke the news and spoke to Landau about the project — credit where it’s due. But what strikes me, watching the Buffy fan community from this particular vantage point, is how unusual this kind of podcast actually is. Cast-led rewatches have become something of an industry staple in recent years, but most are perfunctory affairs: pleasant enough, light on substance, heavy on nostalgia. Landau is not a performer who does anything perfunctorily. If Drusilla taught us anything, it is that Juliet Landau commits.
There is also something quietly significant about the timing. With a Buffy sequel series in active development — Chloe Zhao directing, SMG confirmed to return — the fandom is in an unusually charged state. Conversations about the show feel different now. More purposeful. Re-Vamped seems to understand that, and to be positioning itself not as a fond look back but as something that bridges then and now.
Episodes are available wherever you find your podcasts. Whether you have rewatched the series seventeen times or are approaching it fresh, the prospect of hearing Landau and Benz in the same room discussing, say, “Becoming” or “Fool for Love” is not one to be dismissed lightly.
We’ll be keeping an eye on it.
