A 2001 Howard Stern clip resurfaced this week, and it’s a good one: Natasha Lyonne — now best known for Russian Doll — revealed that the WB had come calling when she was just 16 years old.
They wanted her for Dawson’s Creek. And Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
She said no to both. Her reason was very Natasha Lyonne: “I told them the only thing I would want to do was some sort of Carol Burnett sketch show.” She also wasn’t keen on the commitment: “I decided that I did not want to be committed when I was 16 years old.”
The clip was doing the rounds partly because Alyson Hannigan — who was also a guest on the show — was described as surprised and “seemingly downright skeptical” at the revelation, and said the news “upset her.”
Which is fair. Imagine a world where Natasha Lyonne was Willow Rosenberg. It’s a fascinating alt-universe. But we’re good with the one we got.
