Sarah Michelle Gellar was in Cannes this week to receive the Canal+ Icon Award at Canneseries — and while she was there, she sat down with Variety and talked about pretty much everything: Wolf Pack, the Cruel Intentions reboot, and what she actually thinks about Buffy now.
First, the Cruel Intentions question: she’s not involved. She found out the TV show was happening the same way everyone else did — online. “I hope it’s great,” she said. “But I know I’m not the person to tell that story.”
On Wolf Pack season two: “The conversations are happening.” She was also offered the chance to direct an episode but turned it down — she’s focused on being in front of the camera for now.
And on the Buffy reboot: she supports it, she won’t be in it, and she’s said as much before. What she did push back on was the idea that the Buffy set was uniquely toxic. “Buffy was a difficult project but it was by far not anywhere near the only experience I had like that,” she said. “I look back on Buffy with fondness.”
The Canal+ Icon Award recognises her entire career. A career that started, of course, with a slayer.
