Sarah Michelle Gellar turned 46 this week, and by all accounts it was a birthday well celebrated. Her Buffy castmates — including Michelle Trachtenberg and Emma Caulfield — sent birthday wishes, Shannen Doherty posted a dedicated tribute, and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. took her out for what Gellar described as, without a trace of ambiguity, “the best dinner with the best date.”
The dinner was at Caviar Kaspia LA. The evidence, posted to Instagram: several bowls of caviar on ice and two martinis with four olives each, alongside a genuinely sweet photo of the couple smiling. They’ve been married since 2002 and they still look completely delighted about it.
Gellar has spoken before about what keeps a long marriage working: presence. “Take the 10 minutes — put the phone down. Have a cup of coffee together. Walk the dog at the end of the night,” she told PEOPLE. “Make the most of the time that you have. We are all pulled in so many directions, so make sure that, whichever one you are focusing on, you’re present.” A birthday dinner at a caviar bar with someone you’ve been choosing for over twenty years seems entirely consistent with that philosophy.
